Over Here & Over There: Americans at Home and Abroad in World War I
to
West Baton Rouge Museum 845 North Jefferson Avenue, Port Allen, Louisiana 70767
West Baton Rouge Museum presents a new exhibit from the National Archives on the US involvement in World War I. The biggest US military effort since the Civil War, occurring on a much greater scale than the previous generation's war against Spain, World War I was cast in heroic terms against a wicked, ravaging Germany (little did we know) and involved home-front participation from millions more Americans in addition to those fighting overseas. The exhibit will cover both the war and the home front, presenting photos, artifacts, and reflections on the legacy of the war.
Addition programming connected with the exhibit includes:
On Saturdays, November 4, 11, and 18 and December 2, 9, and 16, the general public is invited to join historians Dr. Paul Paskoff and Dr. Karl Roider for a reading discussion group on World War I and America: Told by the Americans Who Lived It by A. Scott Berg. 10 am-11:30 am.
On Wednesday, November 20, genealogis and retired educator, Ellis Gauthier will speak on West Baton Rouge Soldiers in World War I as part of the museum’s Lunch Time Lecture Series. Noon.
