One of the great joys of illness is getting to watch The Price is Right. Generations of American children grew up knowing how much Danish modern sideboards and Poligrip cost, thanks to the winning stage personality of Bob Barker and his bevy of vaguely gesturing beauties. Barker has been replaced by nearly as charming Drew Carey and the beauties have been supplemented with the hire of a handsome, vaguely gesturing man, but the allure of this kitschy pinnacle of Americana remains undimmed. A new Baton Rouge-produced documentary, The Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much, follows the career of a superfan on the show who helped a contestant place a perfect bid during a Showcase Showdown, leading to controversy among fans. The doc gets its southern premiere at the Joy Theatre, complete with director CJ Wallis and special guests. $17.50-$25. thejoytheater.com or perfectbidmovie.com.
