The West Baton Rouge Museum is pleased to announce a new exhibit, Piecing Together the Blues, featuring the mixed-media artwork of John K. Lawson. His colorful portraits immortalize eight of Louisiana’s most famous Blues performers whose music grew out of south Louisiana’s juke joints. Many of the motifs found in the collages are representative of the artists themselves or their music. Butterflies represent rebirth, while images of the planets represent the universal flow of what the musicians tapped into while writing songs. Lawson has exhibited his work at several galleries, and his collage of Henry Gray served as the official poster for the 2018 Baton Rouge Blues Festival. westbatonrougemuseum.com.
