Pierre Becnel's Evergreen Plantation

Whitney Stewart leads this month's Gallier Gathering at the Gallier Historic House, with a presentation on Pierre Becnel and his 1832 remodeling of Evergreen Plantation. Stewart will speak on the nineteenth century melding of French and American cultures and the ambition for economic and social power within each group, often evidenced by amassing enslaved labor.
