"Poor Man's Provence" Book Discussion
Jeanerette Branch Library 411 Kentucky Street, Jeanerette, Louisiana 70544
King's Features Syndicate columnist Rheta Grimsely Johnson has spent several months a year in Southwest Louisiana's Cajun Country for over a decade. Finding herself falling in love with the place, she bought a second home here and began to set down roots in a tiny town on the edge of the Atchafalaya, better known as Henderson. In her book Poor Man's Provence, the Louisiana pilgrim Johnson explores the disparities between perceptions of what is authentically "Cajun" and what has been commercialized and counterfeited. Through lively characters and stories, personal odyssey and professional reporting, Johnson presents a picture of South Louisiana that is both beguiling and exotic.
As part of the local Water/Ways exhibit project and Museum on Main Street, the Jeanerette Museum Board and Iberia Parish Library have partnered to present a book discussion of Poor Man's Provence at 1 pm on March 28 at the Jeanerette Library. Free to the public. For more information, call the Jeanerette Library at (337) 276-4014 or visit jeanerettemuseum.com.
