The citywide triennial of contemporary art returns, and just in time to herald New Orleans' tricentennial in 2018. Prospect.4: The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp finds inspiration in the lotus plant, which rises above the murky waters of its environment—but could not exist without that swamp either. The exhibition focuses not on New Orleans but the Global South, emphasizing art and artists specifically from North American, Latin American, the Caribbean, Africa, and the European powers that colonized this region. Seventy-three local, national, and international artists will have their work on display in galleries throughout the city. Led by Artistic Director Trevor Schoonmaker, Chief Curator of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, the citywide exhibition presents its roughly twenty venues, ranging from major museums to public sites, as linked venues with clear pathways and clusters that enhance the ease of navigation.
