Relive WWII Weekend
to
Denham Springs Antique Village 100-230 North Range Avenue, Denham Springs, Louisiana 70726
It's not often that Southern war reenactments take place in the twentieth century, but the people of Denham Springs are headed (figuratively) abroad for Relive WWII Weekend, an immersive living history event that will drop the audience right in the midst of World War II—jeeps, firearms, vintage tents, and other fully functioning, fully authentic displays. This event, although free of charge to the public, is a fundraiser for the local veterans’ homes in Jackson and Reserve, Louisiana, with proceeds coming from advertising, sponsorships, and donations. On Friday, a WWII-themed movie will be screened in the parking lot of Old City Hall in the Denham Springs Antique District. Then Saturday morning in the Antique District, interactive displays open to the public. In addition to military encampments, there will be firing demonstrations, show battles, a boot camp obstacle course (for kids), Victory Garden demonstrations, a scrap drive competition, and other activities that recall life on the homefront. Saturday evening closes with a canteen-style variety show with big bands, Abbott & Costello comedy bits, and of course “cut a rug” on the dance floor. Entertainment will be provided by The Spotlight Theater Players and Rosie and The Swingin' Riveters.
