River City Jazz Masters: Etienne Charles Creole Soul

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge's next performer in the River City Jazz Masters series is Etienne Charles, a trumpeter of diverse background and even more diverse musical style. He's joined by his band, comprised of tenor saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart, alto-saxophonist Brian Hogans, Kris Bowers on piano and Fender Rhodes, bassist Ben Williams, and drummer Obed Calvair. Guests include vocalist Erol Josué, guitarist Alex Wintz, and percussionist/vocalists Daniel Sadownick and D'Achee.
Charles has described his musical fusion of traditional jazz and Caribbean soul as an effort to "focus on soul music that is Creole at heart." He's performed with a wide range of musicians including Roberta Flack, Wynton Marsalis, Frank Foster, and Maria Schneider. 7:30 pm at the Manship Theatre. $25–$45. artsbr.org.
