River Road African American Museum's 25th Anniversary Gala
The groundbreaking and essential River Road African American Museum has been interpreting African American life in the rural parishes along River Road longer than anyone else in the area. Twenty-five years, to be exact, and that anniversary will be celebrated this evening with a gala at the Water Campus in Baton Rouge. The gala honors two legendary Louisiana hair care entrepreneurs, Madame C. J. Walker, America's first self-made female millionaire, and Emmitt T. Douglas, owner of Douglas Barber and Beauty Supply and Douglas Fine Foods. The night includes dance performances by the Shillouettes dance company and music by the John Gray Jazz Ensemble.
6 pm–9 pm. $75 via bontempstix.com. Proceeds will be used to finish the museum's Rosenwald School for Education and Culture. Visit africanamericanmuseum.org for details and tickets.
