Robert C. Tannen: Box-City

Anticipating a future of denser populations and reduced resources, Robert C. Tannen wants to reconsider the rigid Western concept of home in an artistic, and radical way. In his solo exhibition at the Hilliard University Art Museum, Tannen posits Box-City as an introduction to alternative approaches to shelter and urban design. The interactive exhibition uses sixty 40" x 48" x 96" triple wall cardboard boxes as to-scale models, allowing museum visitors to create their own three-story metropolis. Each box represents a home unit, and their interchangeability is designed to promote flexibility, individuality, and empowerment.
