In the 1950s, the departments of music, speech, drama, art and architecture were housed as one unit in Burke Hall on the Main Campus of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (UL Lafayette). In the corridors and hallways exhibitions on loan and works were presented. From this humble beginning, the collections have grown, and now the Hilliard Museum is the premium arts display space between Houston and Baton Rouge.
