Though Rougarou Fest won't quite take its usual form this year, the organizers will offer a variety of COVID-safe seasonal treats and excitement to benefit the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center. October is still Rougarou Awareness Month, after all! Here are the events:
Costume Contest: The festival's popular, award-winning costume contest us going entirely virtual this year. Don your scariest, cutest, or otherwise best costume and submit a photo to the Rougarou Fest Facebook page between now and October 23 with your name, mailing address, and the category you would like to enter. Categories are as follows: Pets, Most Creative, Funniest, Scariest, Movie Characters, Kids’ Costumes (5 and Under), Kids’ Costumes (6 to 12), and People’s Choice.
Rougarou Drive Through: You know what Halloween means... plate lunches! Okay, we know that's not a thing, but we do love plate lunches, especially for great causes like Louisiana's Wetlands, and the folks who organize Rougarou Fest do, too. Pop-up food booths every Friday will feature a different meal and dessert for $10. Find the menus here: rougaroufest.org/fest-schedule-virtual.
Top Ten Haunted Yards: This year marks the beginning of an exciting new tradition that is sure to provide spooks and giggles for years to come: a contest to decide the top ten best-Halloween-decorated yards of Terrebonne Parish. Those who wish to participate can submit a photo of their yard and address to the Rougarou Fest Facebook page, and judges will swing by to determine if your yard makes the cut. Winners will receive a “2020 Top 10 Haunted Yards” yard sign, a $25 VISA gift card, and be placed on a driving tour map that will be shared so that everyone can drive past these locations to view the installations.
Videos: Due to the popularity of the Krewe Ga Rou Witches and Zombies, organizers have put together frightfully delightful video content of each. Videos coming soon at rougaroufest.org/be-witched-video.
