Slavery, The Prison Industrial Complex
to
Hilliard Art Museum 710 East St. Mary Boulevard, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503
For decades, husband-and-wife photographers Keith Calhoun and Chandra McCormick have used their art to explore the injustice of Angola and the effects of incarceration on a prisoner's extended family. Twenty-five photographs, now on display at the Hilliard Museum, balance the prisoners' humanity with their experiences inside a maximum-security prison farm. Videos accompany the photographs, showing the releases of three exonerated inmates and their lives both in and out of Angola. The exhibit opens with a public reception on February 8 at the Hilliard Museum (6 pm–8 pm) and remains on view until May 18. hilliardmuseum.org.
Don't miss: Calhoun and McCormick will lead an Artist Tour of the exhibit on Saturday, February 9, from 10:30 am–noon at the museum.
