The slow food movement was formed as the antithesis of the modern fast-food culinary culture; and focuses on the purpose and pleasure inherent in preparing and sharing a sumptuous meal. Celebrate these ideals by joining Slow Food Baton Rouge to get close to local food, farmers, and community at the annual Dinner in the Field. This fundraising event, held at Baton Rouge Gallery, supports the organization's farm-to-school pilot program. The dinner will feature locally grown foods selected and prepared by area chefs, with a cocktail hour that begins at 4 pm, with live music, cocktails, and small plates circulating. A seven-course dinner will begin promptly at 5 pm, with wine pairings alongside. Seating is limited, so purchase your tickets in advance. Early bird tickets are available through April 23. $125 and up. slowfoodbr.org.
