New at the Capitol Park Museum, works from the thirty-four self-taught artists on display in Soul of the South: Selections from the Gitter-Yelen Collection have this, among other aspects, in common: the artist's deep connection with his or her environment and an extraordinary expression of that intimacy. The exhibit comprises more than sixty pieces of contemporary Southern art and a stunning range of place-based creativity.

The exhibit opens with a September 27 cocktail reception hosted by Friends of the Capitol Park Museum. 6 pm–8 pm. This event is free and open to the public. (225) 342-5428.
