The oft-used phrase "something for everyone" genuinely seems applicable to the gaggle of things happening at the John M. Parker Coliseum this weekend, where the annual Baton Rouge Spring Garden Show will simultaneously sprout alongside the Louisiana State and Regional Chili Cook-Off.
• Saturday and Sunday: For the Spring Garden Show, the floor of the coliseum is transformed with displays of plants and plantings for gardens of all sizes. The show attracts scores of vendors selling a tremendous variety of plants and yard, garden, and patio-related merchandise. 9 am–4 pm each day. (225) 355-1099 or lsuagcenter.com.
• Saturday and Sunday: Next door, the state's best chili cooks will be in action at the "Chili for Children" Louisiana State and Regional Chili Cook-Off. With regional contestants taking part and lots of other food from categories like red chili, chili verde, salsa, and homestyle chili, proceeds go to the Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. 10:30 am–4:30 pm. louisianachilicookoff.com.
• Sunday: Baton Rouge Spring Car Show: Bring your ride to the show—all models and years welcome—or just come to check out the chrome. Next to the John M. Parker Coliseum. Registration from 9 am– noon ($25). Proceeds to benefit a local charity.
