The Lion and the Lamb
The tombs of Governor Jacques Dupre and his wife at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opleousas, Louisiana.
For two weekends, community volunteers will share historic portrayals of the families and cultures that shaped Opelousas during these cedar-shaded, one-hour cemetery tours at St. Landry Catholic Church. From its beginnings as a Spanish Fort, Opelousas has beckoned people from all ethnic groups to be part of its colorful history. This cemetery, consecrated in 1798, reminds visitors of historic events and lives lost. Spend some time with voices from the past and listen to their stories of struggle and perseverance. Proceeds from the tours go towards cemetery maintenance and preservation. 6 pm, 7 pm, and 8 pm on Saturday; 2 pm and 3 pm on Sunday. 1020 North Main Street. $10, with each tour limited to groups of fifteen people.
