Steel Magnolias at the Manship
Manship Theatre 100 Lafayette Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802
Steel Magnolias started life as a play—or really, as the actual experience of playwright Robert Harling, which he then fictionalized and dramatized—and though the 1989 film cemented the show's legacy as a small-town Southern story of love and loss, it's only appropriate that an ardent all-female performing arts group introduce a screening of the movie at the Manship Theatre. The Red Magnolia Theatre Company will stage their own production of the play in November. 2 pm; bar opens at 1 pm; doors at 1:30 pm. $9.50. manshiptheatre.org.
