If you know a teen interested in science, or you are a teen interested in science, the River Road African American Museum has a new series you're going to want to hear about: Teen Science Cafés. The series is created by teens, for teens—a relaxed, fun opportunity to socialize outside of school and enjoy some refreshments, while talking with local scientists and engineers about current cutting-edge ideas in science and technology. The cafés aren't only for the science geeks, but any curious teenagers looking for a fun chance to socialize and learn. A core group of Teen Leaders, with mentorship from an adult, plan and run the cafés themselves; and they welcome as diverse a crowd of teens as possible—diverse in ethnicity, culture, gender, and motivations for learning about science. Cafés are typically 1-1.5 hours, once per each month during the school year, with an additional Teen Leader planning meeting before each café. 6:30 pm. africanamericanmuseum.org.
