The Caddo and Their Ancestors
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame/Northwest Louisiana History Museum 800 Front Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457
Taking an archaeological perspective on the past, Jeffrey Girard traces native human habitation in northwest Louisiana from the end of the last Ice Age, through the formation of the Caddo culture in the tenth century BCE, to the early nineteenth century. Employing the results of recent scientific investigations, “The Caddos and Their Ancestors” depicts a distinct and dynamic population spanning from precolonial times to the dawn of the modern era. Please join us at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum as Jeff Girard, state regional archaeologist and assistant professor at Northwestern State University, discusses recent archaeological investigations and the implications for understanding the early Caddo peoples. 2 pm.
