The Carmelites' Mass of Roses
Discalced Carmelite Monastery 73530 River Road, Covington, Louisiana 70435
To honor and celebrate the young nun St. Therese of Lisieux, who as she lay dying in 1897 proclaimed "After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses," Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Covington and The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Covington present their annual tradition, the Mass of Roses. Held each first Sunday in October, which is St. Therese of Lisieux's feast day, the morning will begin with the Eucharist and nuns distributing blessed roses on the grounds of the monastery. After mass, homemade items like baked goods, dolls, gift cards, and more will be sold. The Carmelites take a vow of poverty—meaning their modest lifestyles and insurance for the convent are largely supported by donations, and this is their primary fundraising event for the year. Begins at 9 am with the Eucharist, 9:30 am distribution of the blessed roses. Learn more about the mass and sisters at covingtoncarmel.org/mass-of-the-roses.
