JAMES BILLEAUDEAU
Leon "Lippi" Leonpacher, a German immigrant, was among the first people to bring modern veterinary science to Acadiana. Using his plane to visit the small towns in the area in a time before roads were always reliable, he modernized treatment of livestock and was in important figure in the fight against potentially devastating anthrax. He loved his new home, but still revisited Germany when he could - it's where he could get the best beer and sausages. His granddaughter, Leslie Leonpacher, has produced a documentary about her illustrious grandfather, The Flying Vet of Lafayette. His journals will be on display at the Acadiana Center for the Arts starting at 6:30 pm, followed by a screening of the film at 7:30 and subsequent Q&A period. acadianacenterforthearts.org.
