Born in England in 1875, photographer Robert William Tebbs immigrated the the United States with his family in 1888. He went on to become a renowned photographer of architecture and interior, winning commissions to document major projects like New York City's Grand Central Terminal in 1913. In 1926, with New Orleans architect and preservationist Richard Koch as his guide, Tebbs photographed nearly 100 Louisiana plantations, including Whitney, Belle Grove, Oakley, Rosedown, Oak Alley, Brame House, Labatut, Shadows-on-the-Teche, and many, many more. His collection provides a comprehensive record of Louisiana plantation architectural styles, and includes many homes that no longer exist. Tebb's plantation photography will be on display at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame & Northwest Louisiana History Museum from April 26–November 2. An opening reception will be held on April 26 at 5 pm, featuring Dr. Richard Anthony Lewis, author of Robert W. Tebbs, Photographer to Architects: Louisiana Plantations in 1926.
