The Square Collection
to
West Baton Rouge Museum 845 North Jefferson Avenue, Port Allen, Louisiana 70767
Featuring many of America's most distinguished African American artists—Jacob Lawrence, Tina Allen, John T. Scott, and Elizabeth Catlett, to name a few—Zachary native Larry Square's extensive private collection has come out from behind the couch (see our feature story from the January 2019 issue for that story) and into the gallery of the West Baton Rouge Museum.
The exhibit will be on display from January 19—March 24. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, January 20 at 2 pm, featuring dance performances, a gallery talk, and refreshments. On Wednesday, January 30, as part of the West Baton Rouge Museum's Lunchtime Lectures, Dr. Joyce Marie Jackson will present "I Just Buy What I Like"—backstories of the Lawrence Square Black Art Collection, exploring the question: Why do people collect? And, Why do people collect this? For more information, visit westbatonrougemuseum.com.
