Third Thursday: John Barry

The flu and the flood are the topics for which author John M. Barry earned his reputation as a shrewd historian; his insights into the 1918 influenza crisis and the 1927 Mississippi River flood—and most importantly, the responses to each disaster—prove all too important today as the country faces down potential pandemics and inundations.
