American artist Frederick J. Brown is renowned internationally for his portraits of musicians, which peaked during New York's art and music renaissance in the '70s and '80s. A new exhibition from Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and The New Orleans Jazz Museum features several of his hundreds of musician portraits, including greats like Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet, Billie Holiday, Wynton Marsalis, Bix Beiderbeicke, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Patton, and Ray Charles. The portraits range in style, showcasing the wide range of Brown's portfolio. An opening reception will take place at 5:30 pm October 6. nolajazzmuseum.org.
