Courtney Egan creates projection-based art installations inspired by the profusion of flora in New Orleans, where she has lived and worked since 1991. Historically, botanical artists recorded nature directly, aiming to convey all aspects of flora from a scientific viewpoint; Egan digitally manipulates the natural world, questioning how the perception of nature is changed by technology.
In Virtual Idylls, an exhibit on display at the Ogden Museum of Art through September 1, Egan weaves her distinct interpretations of botanical art with sculpture and tehchnology. ogdenmuseum.org.
