William Bartram’s Louisiana Trail Conference

During three days this March, the Friends of LSU Hilltop Arboretum will host William Bartram’s Louisiana Trail Conference. Bartram was America’s first native-born naturalist artist who recorded Louisiana’s natural world during a four-year trip he took between 1773 and 1777. The conference will feature special events, tours, and speakers which will illuminate Bartram’s travels through the South. • March 24: A marker dedication and opening reception at Magnolia Mound Plantation; tours of the LSU Shirley C. Tucker Herbarium and The Special Collections at LSU Hill Memorial Library
• March 25: Conference and keynote banquet at the EBRP Main Library focusing on eighteenth-century Louisiana history and natural history of West Florida as well as Bartram’s contributions to art and literature and the Bartram Trail Heritage
• March 26: LSU Hilltop Arboretum Tree Stroll Brunch, Pointe Coupee History Tour, and Burden Museum and Garden Tours.
