Woodville Civic Club Buffet Dinner
South of the Border 14875 Hwy 61 N, Saint Francisville, Louisiana 70775
The Woodville Civic Club hops state lines to celebrate its achievements tonight, with a buffet dinner at South of the Border in St. Francisville. And there's much to celebrate, including the June opening of the Smith Creek Wilkinson County Indian Mound Exhibit, curated by Dr. Megan Kassabaum of the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Woodville Main Street Association; the newly open African American Museum, staffed by volunteers and featuring the contributions to the arts by local-residents, such as William Grant Still, who was the conductor of the Los Angeles Symphony, Lester Young, the legendary saxophonist with Count Basie, Scott Dunbar, and Anne Moody; and the release of the 5th volume of The Journal of Wilkinson County History, marriage records for the county from 1925 to 1956 by Linda Gene Felter Carter. (You can find many volumes on Woodville's vivid history at historicwoodville.com.)
Other announcements are planned for the evening, including news of an upcoming bequest, the largest in the club's history. The dinner's featured guests include Michelle Weaver Jones, recently retired from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History; and Carter Burns, the new director of the Historic Natchez Foundation.
A cash bar will be available at 6 pm and the dinner will be served at 7 pm at a cost of $25. Proceeds go to the museums. Limited reservations for the buffet dinner can be made online to woodvillecivicclub@aol.com, by mail to PO Box 1055, Woodville MS 39669, or by calling (601) 888-7151.
