Zydeco Capital Jam
St. Landry Parish Visitor Center 978 Kennerson Road, Opelousas, Louisiana 70570
St. Landry Parish is gunning to revitalize its status as the Zydeco Capital of the World with a new monthly series: Zydeco Capital Jam. Led by Grammy-nominated accordionist and professor at UL Lafayette's Traditional Music Program, the event will be the region's first zydeco jam session of its kind in nearly a decade.
"The Zydeco Capital Jam [will] bring back a tradition we haven't had since zydeco legend Roy Carrier died in 2010," said St. Landry's new executive director of the Parish Tourist Commission Herman Fuselier. "Many great musicians came out of the Thursday night jams that Roy had at the Offshore Lounge in Lawtell. There's no better place to revive these jams than in the official Zydeco Music Capital of the World—Opelousas."
Jams will be held on the second Saturday of each month from 1 pm–3 pm at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center.
