It’s that time of year when lots of folks are packing lunch boxes and backpacks to send their kids off to school. But for those of us whose kids have left the nest, it’s time to pack our suitcases. The fall airfare sales have begun. It’s my favorite time to travel, when the weather almost everywhere is at its best. As I write this Spirit Airlines is offering sale prices starting at $70 roundtrip to Fort Lauderdale and Chicago, $106 to Las Vegas, and $126 to Los Angeles. This is a flash sale which could be gone before you read this, but another one will soon follow, so now is the time to pay close attention. You can sign up for sale alerts from most airlines, or if you have a specific destination or two in mind, you can arrange for Kayak.com to send you an update each time the fares change on your wish list. Just do a search for that city, and you’ll see a button on the left of the page that allows you to set up a price alert.
