One word sums up why I love Barcelona: Gaudi.
If you love art and architecture, his indescribably weird and wonderful cathedral, Sagrada Familia, has to be on your bucket list along with his other marvels dotting the city. And if you give me a second word to describe why I love Barcelona: Tapas. Everywhere. Here’s a tip ... Spaniards eat VERY late, so if you don’t mind looking like a tourist arrive at your chosen dining spot when the evening dinner service starts around 8 pm, and you’ll get right in. I also love that nice hotels there are reasonably priced, and that Aerobus leaves from the airport every few minutes and will deliver you to the heart of what’s happening in the city for six Euros. This fall, there are excellent airfares there from New Orleans starting at $620 roundtrip. I used the flexible dates tool at kayak.com to find this fare. Wanna take advantage of the Brexit plunge in the value of the British pound while you’re at it? Roundtrip air to London from Barcelona starts at under $100.
