I have two favorite places to visit for eye-popping holiday decorations: Orlando and Las Vegas. I talked about Orlando a few weeks ago, so let’s give Vegas its due this week. There are often lines waiting to see the remarkable holiday-themed floral displays at the Bellagio Conservatory, but each of the big hotels along The Strip tries to outdo the others with their displays. I must have walked lobbies for two or three hours the last time I was there in December and still didn’t scratch the surface. As I’m writing this on Tuesday morning, Spirit Airlines is offering roundtrip fares to Vegas from New Orleans starting at $130 in mid-December, but these sales come and go in a flash these days. So if you miss this one, keep an eye on their website for the next. That mid-December window is also a great time to score a deal on a hotel. The Philippe Starck-designed SLS Las Vegas offers rooms on select midweek dates for $36 and select weekend dates for $50. There is that annoying "resort fee" that many hotels tack on though. In this case $30 a night, but that is offset mostly by a $25 food and beverage credit.
