Bayou Dorcheat has long been known as the main water highway of this area, since steamboats from the Red River traversed the bayou providing cargo and trade to farmers.
The Dorcheat Historical Association Museum features American Indian and pioneer artifacts, including steam boating on Dorcheat Bayou, a log cabin, furniture, and clothing as well as material from the American Civil War era. Exhibits include local theaters and movies that were filmed in Webster Parish, some of our areas famous singers and songwriters, the Coca-Cola Bottling of Minden, and the tragedy of 1933. Tours are free to the public.
