The Magnolia Independent Film Festival
February 22–24, 2024
Mississippi’s very first film festival got its start in 1997 when the poet, journalist, and filmmaker Rob Tibbett couldn’t find a festival to premiere his film Swept Off My Feet in Mississippi, where he lived at the time. The festival, held in Starkville, would eventually spur the creation of a thriving independent film community within Mississippi—which continues today. Known by regulars as “The Mag,” the festival is best known for its focus on filmmakers, particularly home-grown ones—though films are shown from creators the world over, bringing out that signature Mississippi hospitality to the nth degree.
