The art of barbecue is serious business in Webster Parish, and Minden’s sixth annual Grilling on Main cook-off is no exception. Hosted by Minden Main Street June 10-11, the weekend-long barbecue extravaganza is one of the biggest to-dos the town has to offer, with visitors and locals alike invited to gather around an open flame and fill up their plates. The sanctioned event will host dozens of competitors who hail from around the region, as well as neighboring states like Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi.
Those with the gumption to put their best tried-and-true, low-and-slow BBQ on the line will compete for a chunk of $10,000 in cash prizes. With three categories—ribs, brisket, and chicken—competitors get a chance to showcase their smoked specialty. As for people’s choice, that $500 award goes to whoever can cook up the best pork back roast. Don’t be surprised if you see barbecuers burning the midnight oil to tend to their creations—like we said, it’s serious business.
Undoubtedly, the cutest part of the event will be the Little Grillers competition. Thanks to Minden’s local Ace Hardware, pitmasters-in-training get to try their own hand at barbecue this year—with adult supervision, of course. The young culinary masterminds will be split into two age groups to battle it out over pork chops.
With a cornhole tournament, live music, shopping, food vendors, and a spectacular fireworks show, there’s enough to keep even the barbecue naysayers entertained. Hungry just thinking about it? For more information, head to visitwebster.net.
