GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi boasts interactive exhibits that explore not only elements of the prestigious GRAMMY awards themselves, but also the many forces (historical, cultural, technological) that helped shape American music as we know it today. Whether you’re interested in B.B. King's guitar or Beyonce's couture, producing your own blues demo, or being captivated in the museum's state-of-the-art sound stage, there's something waiting for you.
The 28,000 square feet of the museum, located near the Delta State University campus in Cleveland, Mississippi, is filled with over two dozen exhibits designed not only to inform but to inspire—the museum and the community surrounding it know that music is not a static monument to be preserved, but a dynamic force, shaping and shaped by each new generation.
“We're a music museum, of course, but there's just so many ways to incorporate music into learning, and we try to help teachers with the resources to do that,” says Emily Havens, executive director of the museum.
As an educational non-profit, the museum's mission emphasizes this kind of work, with educational tours for an increasing number of schools, hand-on workshops on a variety of musical subjects, and music camps. They also provide further support for music in schools, such as the museum's holiday instrument drive, which runs through December 21.
GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi isn't just for students, of course. With its in-depth information presented on dynamic displays, deep dives into the Mississippi music connections, and of course, plenty of high-definition recordings to listen to, the museum speaks to curious and creative minds of all ages and from around the world.
If you're coming for a visit, don't forget to check the museum's schedule of events, which often include intimate performances with GRAMMY-affiliated artists, or a feature of an up-and-coming band. The GRAMMY Awards may only be one night, but you can experience the power of music year round at GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi.
