The crisp, cool(ish) air of Louisiana fall just begs to be complemented with a sip or three—or more—of some of the region's best craft breweries. Luckily, that just happens to be Funktoberfest’s forte. This October brings the fourth round of the outdoor craft beer and music festival to Alexandria, where brewers, drinkers, music enthusiasts and general fun-lovers congregate to get funky and support the community.
Craft Brewers from around the state and beyond bring their best to Funktoberfest, along with the exciting Home Brewers competitors, giving attendees the chance to taste over 150 types of beer with some they won't find anywhere else except Funktoberfest. Proceeds benefit the Tipitina's Foundation – Instruments A ‘Comin, putting instruments in the hands of local students, so the tunes that help drive Louisiana's unique rhythm of life never stop flowing.
There's plenty of live music, food, and other entertainment to keep even the designated drivers and younger members of the family having a good time, but the highlight for beer-lovers is going to have to be the Homebrewer competition. Regular and Military tickets come with a wristband that grants the wearer complimentary tastings until 6 pm (with 21+ IDs, of course), while VIP ticketholders can start sipping early and skip the line for limited supply brews. A “Top Brewer” will be awarded amongst the homebrewers, but drinkers will vote with their dollars to determine the “People's Choice” award winner. Vote responsibly!
The beer tastings and awards take place on Saturday, October 6, but why limit the fun to one day? Don't miss the Friday Funky Pre-Party on the fifth for a “funktabulous” double down. Tickets for the Friday party can be purchased separately, or are included (along with many other perks) in the Funktoberfest VIP Pass. FunktoberfestCenla.com.
