Covington Culture and Community Events

If there’s one thing Covington loves, it’s to get together and have a good time.

Covington is all about community. And if there’s one thing this community loves, it’s to get together and have a good time – usually over live music and drinks. Guests are welcome too, of course – the more the merrier in Downtown Covington! The warmer months especially are packed with free events to keep the whole family entertained. Whether you’re interested in concerts, cucumbers or classic cars, there’s something in store for you when you head downtown.

A good kickoff to the weekend is always satisfying, but keep an eye on Fridays in March through October to be especially festive in Covington. The third Friday of every month, you can catch a free outdoor concert with the Sunsets on the Landing series. Bring your folding chairs and friends to take in local and visiting artists performing jazz, blues, bluegrass, and more along the scenic Bogue Falaya River. The last Friday of every month, the 200 to 500 blocks of downtown Columbia Street close to traffic and open to a neighborhood block party! Shops and galleries in the area are open late, DJs and bands keep the groove going, and snazzy classic cars are parked for due admiration.

Craving more free concerts? The Rockin’ the Rails concert series rolls every Thursday in April and October at the Covington Trailhead. The live music from local favorites and up-and-comers might just have you boogying all the way down the Tammany Trace! After the show, keep an eye out for raffles and goody bag from the Covington Business Association so you can get even more out of exploring Downtown Covington.

The farmers’ market brings together two of South Louisiana’s very favorite things – great music and irresistible food. The Covington Farmers Market offers fresh fruits and vegetables from local produce growers, as well as prepared foods from the area’s talented artisans. And, of course, live tunes from local musicians. Markets are held every Wednesday morning at the Covington Trailhead, and every Saturday morning near the St. Tammany Parish Courthouse. The first Saturday of every month, don’t miss the Covington Art Market as well in nearby Art Alley, featuring handmade work from local and regional artists in a wide range of mediums, including paintings, photography, jewelry, and much more.
