Home to aromas both familiar and confounding, the gorgeously-appointed Red Stick Spice Company is quick to disorient even the savviest home cooks. All for the best, then, that the Jefferson Highway store now offers cooking classes to visitors dying to use their new purchases (and to have reasons to buy more, more, more).
The classes, which all take place in the shop’s spacious demonstration kitchen, tap into current trends and curiosities. “Supper in 30” features store owner Anne Milneck slicing and dicing her way through a three-course meal in half an hour. Photogenic meals are on the menu during “Cook and Insta for Teens” (which has this #foodie writer wishing she still passed for 19). “Low Salt, No Salt” swaps sodium for just as satisfying spice blends. And “Kraut with Kaitlynn” hands the reins to on-staff microbiologist Katilynn Fenley as she guides a group through making their very own sauerkraut and understanding the nitty-gritty of probiotics.
