Galatoire's
This is, in our estimation, one in a list of thirty marvelous places, flavors, events, and experiences that anyone who lives in—or loves—our part of the world should experience at least once in his or her lifetime.
Few cities in the world celebrate life through sustenance quite like New Orleans does. But even in a town awash in memorable dining experiences, Galatoire’s is a place apart. This most venerable of the city’s grand old dining institutions might be surrounded by the tawdry excesses of Bourbon Street, but once you pass through its narrow doors onto that cool mosaic tile floor you’re party to a different breed of excess altogether. Friday is when New Orleans’ high society dons its bow ties and silk scarves, gathering to celebrate week’s end with unmatched exuberance. By 11 am, the tables in the bright, mirrored dining hall are full and the champagne is flowing. By noon the air is filled with shouts of laughter, the rich scent of seafood dishes, and the unrivalled theatre of Galatoire’s famed tuxedoed waiters. When life calls for celebration, there’s nowhere quite like it. 209 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, La. (504) 525-2021 or galatoires.com.
