Gautier Mullet & Music Festival
Downtown Gautier Hwy 90 and Dolphin Road, Gautier, Mississippi 39553
Let's face it: if you're a member of the animal kingdom, the moment they name a festival after you is the moment to get out of town. That's the takeaway lesson for members of the mugilidae family of ray-finned fish, who will want to be following the school away from Gautier, Mississippi, this weekend. The annual Mullet Festival challenges the longest throwing arms of the Gulf Coast to launch the (fortunately plentiful) fish skyward, during the fiercely contested annual Mullet Toss contest. Everyone gets a go. Although, if you're more attracted by the likes of classic and exotic car shows, hands-on arts and crafts exhibits, a cast net contest, live music, heritage displays, a kids' village and festival foods, or a cosplay contest—you won't have to fling a fish to get some. Bring your folding chairs and dancing shoes, find a spot in the shade, and look out for falling fish. 9 am–7 pm in downtown Gautier on Dolphin Drive. Free. gautiermulletfest.com.
