Examining the state's relationship with water from a variety of perspectives and contexts.
Cajundome 444 Cajundome Boulevard, Lafayette, Louisiana 70506
Everywhere one looks in Louisiana, water is at the forefront of discussion. While this is not a new concern in Louisiana history, anxieties over water and its future effects have dramatically increased in recent years. Join the Center for Louisiana Studies on Monday to examine the state's relationship with water from a variety of perspectives and contexts. Conference Chair Dr. Liz Skilton will guide a day-long symposium of discussion and contemplative presentations, touching on history and geography, music, art, literature, and film, law and politics, and a concluding panel on the first anniversary of the devastating flooding that inundated South Louisiana in August 2016. Author and activist John M. Barry will be the keynote speaker. 9 am‒7:30 pm. Free. Reserve a seat at h2ola.eventbrite.com. clspresents@louisiana.edu for more information.
