The Louisiana State Museum’s New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint will once again hold the premier American jazz festival dedicated to the life and music of New Orleans’ own native son, Louis Armstrong. Satchmo SummerFest will feature three days of captivating seminars about the history and influence of Armstrong and jazz music in New Orleans. The festival also includes staged musical performances by traditional jazz, contemporary jazz, and brass bands. On Saturday and Sunday, parents and children are welcome to relax in the air-conditioned second floor of the Old U.S. Mint and enjoy family activities, movies, and exhibits in "Pop's Playhouse." Additional events include a Sunday morning Jazz Mass at the Church of Sydney Bechet (1210 Governor Nicholls Street) in Treme, a traditional second line parade, traditional jazz dance lessons, and authentic local cuisine in the festival’s “Red Bean Alley.” 400 Esplanade Street.
