A display from the exhibition Transcommunality by Laura Anderson Barbata.
Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University officially reopens its doors to the public as of May 22 with the exhibition Transcommunality, which features the varied work of multi-disciplinary artist Laura Anderson Barbata. The exhibition opened virtually on January 19, and will now be available for in-person viewing until October 2. Born in Mexico and currently based in New York, Anderson Barbata's work engages a wide ranging audience about issues of cultural diversity and sustainability, with a unique blend of street theatre, sculpture, political activism, and arts education. Overarching themes of reciprocal respect, collaboration, and preservation of indigenous knowledge weave throughout Transcommunality, and the exhibition, "offers a space to contemplate ritual, folklore and the impact of the natural environment on culture." Free. Timed tickets are available for registration at newcombartmuseum.tulane.edu.
