Boom or Bust
Downtown Minden, La. is located south of the Boom or Bust Byway. The Byway follows Highway 2 and is defined by the Louisiana Texas border on the west and then loops around the town of Homer to the east. The Byway is comprised of four parishes: Caddo, Bossier, Webster and Claiborne.
You’ve heard of neighborhood and city-wide garage sales, but what about a tristate yard sale? From April 16—18, the longest yard sale in America runs along the historic U.S. Highway 80, stretching all the way from eastern Texas to Georgia, with North Louisiana smack in the middle.
Ride the roads less traveled in search of hidden and new-to-you treasures, or become a vendor yourself—you can sell almost anything, from gently used and well-loved furniture or household items, to baked goods and handcrafted wares, to old farm equipment and tools! It’s a hybrid sort of happening—part flea market, part farmer’s market, part makers’ fair—where all are welcome.

This three-state annual weekend event is the stuff dreams are made of for yard sale lovers, bargain hunters, and anyone who loves the thrill of a good find. With 392 miles of wares winding throughout cities and small towns, ranches and rural areas, you never know what (or where) you’ll stumble upon, because as all secondhand seekers know, the next great find may be just around the corner. Peruse a variety of vendors along Minden’s Main Street and throughout parking lots downtown, as well as within the village of Dixie Inn, while doing some sightseeing along the way.
If you can’t make it this time around, don’t fret; the massive event occurs twice a year, so come October, reserve the third weekend for a trip to North Louisiana. To plan your route, head to hwy80sale.net for more information or visit the Minden area’s Facebook page. Happy hunting!
