Its historic vibe and highly photogenic spaces make the Old Governor’s Mansion a favorite setting for weddings and events. Couples have been celebrating their nuptials here since the building opened to the public for events in the 1970s.
But weddings have been happening here since long before that. Huey Long’s niece was the first to get married in the residence in 1930—the year it opened. Daughter Rose Long also held her wedding reception at the Governor’s Mansion in 1938. In the collection of the Louisiana Old State Capitol is a wedding favor from Rose’s wedding, a diminutive white box with Rose’s name on it that held a tiny piece of wedding cake.
A beautiful place to be wed at the Old Governor's Mansion
Imagine taking vows in the serene beauty of the Rose Garden surrounded by your wedding party and guests. The backdrop of historic white roses is intended to complement any color brides have selected for bouquets and bridesmaids’ gowns. Move indoors for an evening of dinner and dancing. Caterers set up sumptuous spreads in the state dining room, and strategically place bars in the library and garden. The ballroom is the perfect room for cutting the cake and dancing to a live band. Its detailed rose marble fireplace and layered crown molding deliver the kind of elegance every bride craves, and its expansive mirrors created the famed “infinity” shot in which brides are depicted with repeated images of the ballroom’s three stunning crystal chandeliers.
Upstairs, select historic bedrooms and bathrooms in the Mansion provide a charming setting for bridal parties to relax and get ready. A special bride’s room features a massive six-by-eight foot mirror that once graced the Afton Villa Plantation home in St. Francisville, along with comfortable furnishings and an adjoining restroom.
