Bayou Rum Distillery has been honored with a 2016 Louey Award from the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association (LTPA), which named the Lacassine-based distillery—the largest private rum distillery in the U.S.—Attraction of the Year.
Founded in 2011 by brothers Tim and Trey Litel, working with friend Skip Cortese, Bayou Rum distills its rums in traditional copper pot stills using Louisiana sugarcane—a natural fit in a sugar-producing state. In addition to the distillery itself, visitors to Bayou Rum’s Lacassine property can explore the rum-making process through a visitor center and a gallery chronicling the state’s historic role as a sugar cane producer and rum distiller, a tasting bar and gift shop. bayourum.com.
