Opelousas Zydeco Breakfast

Combine the bouncing rhythms of Zydeco with praline chicken bites, and you've got the makings of a quintessential Louisiana morning. The annual Zydeco Breakfast, held in conjunction with the Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival, happens under the oak trees surrounding the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, when local restaurants and bars around the square offer an assortment of breakfast menu items to be enjoyed within earshot of the music, provided this year by Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys. 9 am–11 am Bring lawn chairs for post-breakfast lounging—and for watching the Original Southwest Zydeco Festival Parade, which sets out at 10 am. cityofopelousas.com.
