Oyster Cook-Off at The Hangout

Held annually the first weekend of November, Gulf Shores' Oyster Cook-off has hit upon a winning combination: bringing fresh Gulf oysters and well-known celebrity chefs from across the U.S., together at The Hangout for a weekend's worth of oyster-fueled feasting. The event begins at 6 pm Friday with a live performances by Billy Raffoul and Matt Maeson paired with a craft beer tasting featuring sixty beers from twenty-five brewers. $40 in advance or $50 at the door gets you in and includes unlimited beer tastings and music from 6 pm-11 pm. 

Then, it's oyster time. Over seventy chefs and restaurants from across the country present dishes built around the bivalve. Cooking demonstrations and workshops take place all day Saturday, as do an oyster shucking contest and live music by Michael Ray and The Red Clay Strays. 11 am-5:30 pm, $10 admission. See hangoutcookoff.com for a complete schedule.
